Plaitings: The Nature & Culture of the Cayman Islands

Plaitings: The Nature & Culture of the Cayman Islands highlights the cultural and natural heritage of the Cayman Islands.

The project builds on the success of the 2024 'Writing the Land' anthology Cayman Brac From Bluff to Sea, and focuses on the relationship between Caymanian people, especially women who tended the land while the men were at sea, and the Islands' flora and fauna. The book will feature contributions from artists, poets, and storytellers from the three islands, and pair these with information about native plants.

The initiative aims to raise awareness about habitat preservation and the cultural importance of the Islands' natural environment. It involves a multidisciplinary team of Caymanians and contributors. CBRAC (Coast to Bluff Recreational Access and Conservation, a Caymanian non-profit) will receive a percentage of sales to use in their mission to support land conservation efforts in Cayman.

NatureCulture® is a boutique publishing house focusing on land conservation. We work in the USA, Cayman Islands, Ireland, and Canada, so far. Our mission is to help humans be in right relationship with Nature, of which we are a part. This is our second project in the Cayman Islands. The first, Cayman Brac: From Bluff to Sea, is sold to benefit CBRAC, a Caymanian non-profit that works to conserve land on Cayman Brac.
